When homeowner and designer Sukeina Jethabhai moved from Vancouver to Thornhill with her husband, three children, and mother, they wanted to build a home that would accommodate their busy lifestyle.

The first step in creating a multigenerational home is to think about functionality. Each generation has different needs, so it's essential to consider how the space will be used by everyone. Jethabhai designed the home with separate living spaces for each generation, allowing for privacy and comfort.

Another key aspect of a multigenerational home is accessibility. Jethabhai incorporated features such as wider doorways, grab bars in bathrooms, and a main-floor bedroom to ensure that the home would be accessible for everyone, including those with mobility limitations.

Designing a stylish multigenerational home also requires the use of clever storage solutions. Jethabhai integrated hidden storage throughout the house, such as built-in cabinets and storage ottomans, to keep the space clutter-free and organized.

Moving on to the design elements of the home, Jethabhai focused on creating a modern and stylish aesthetic. The open-concept layout of the main living area allows for easy flow and communication between the different generations.

Neutral color palettes with pops of color were used throughout the home to create a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere. Jethabhai also incorporated natural materials such as wood and stone to add warmth and texture to the space.
