Maximizing Space and Functionality

The original layout of the kitchen was great, but it lacked sufficient storage and functionality. The small island was tall, dark, and blocked the space. Designer Nicole Lanteigne aimed to create a fun and practical kitchen that would allow the couple to entertain their friends.

To maximize the space, Lanteigne took the cabinetry all the way up to the ceiling, creating additional storage. She also added a bar fridge and a cool countertop for easy entertaining. The open cabinet above the countertop provides a space for books, plants, and personal touches.

The functional area of the kitchen was framed in by creating a border around it. This includes the island, which has touch latches for additional storage. The upper cabinets open on a double hinge, allowing easy access to items that are typically hard to reach.

Aesthetically, the kitchen features white matte cabinet fronts and brass pulls for a clean and modern look. The countertop, chosen by the client, resembles clouds and has a beautiful matte finish. It was used as both the countertop and the backsplash, creating a seamless and clean look.

Creating an Entertaining Space

The goal of the kitchen makeover was to create a space where the couple could entertain their friends. The double-sided island provides ample seating and storage. The touch latches and pull-out drawers make it easy to access items while entertaining.

The waterfall island not only adds a unique design element but also creates additional seating space. The full-size slab countertop was used to maximize the space and provide a seamless look. It also serves as the backsplash, creating a clean and modern aesthetic.

The bright and open design of the kitchen, combined with the functional layout and ample storage, makes it the perfect space for entertaining. The clients are thrilled with the transformation and love having their friends over.
