Designing for Light and Connection

The initial state of the house was dark and disconnected, with small windows that didn't allow much natural light in. This posed a significant challenge for the homeowners, as living in such an environment can impact mood and overall well-being.

Chris Lischkoff of Salt Design Group recognized the importance of natural light and connection to create a welcoming space. By adding large windows and strategically placing skylights, they were able to transform the house into a light-filled haven. The increased natural light not only makes the space look more spacious but also enhances the overall atmosphere of the home.

In addition to maximizing natural light, the design team also focused on creating better connections between rooms. They opened up the layout, removing walls and creating a more fluid and cohesive space. This allowed for better flow and interaction between different areas of the house, promoting a sense of unity and harmony.

Choosing the Right Color Palette

The choice of colors can significantly impact the overall ambiance of a space. In this project, the design team opted for a light and neutral color palette, creating a sense of calm and tranquility.

Light shades of white, beige, and gray were used on the walls, while pops of color were introduced through accessories and artwork. This approach allows for flexibility in personalizing the space with different accents and ensures a timeless appeal.

Moreover, the light color palette reflects and enhances the natural light, making the house feel even brighter and more inviting. It also creates a cohesive look throughout the different areas of the home, tying everything together aesthetically.

Utilizing Space-Saving Solutions

With a limited floor area, it was crucial to optimize space and maximize functionality. The design team incorporated various space-saving solutions to make the most of every square footage.

Built-in storage units were added to minimize clutter and create a clean and organized look. Customized furniture pieces were also designed to fit seamlessly into the available space, providing both practicality and style.

In the kitchen, clever storage solutions, such as pull-out cabinets and hidden drawers, were implemented to ensure efficient use of space. This allowed for a streamlined and uncluttered kitchen that is both visually appealing and highly functional.
